It is well known for its antiseptic and anesthetic properties. It affects the mucous membranes, heart, blood, and respiration, often causing severe prostration, sudden intense pains, and very foul, destructive discharges.
- Properties: Carbolic Acid acts as a potent irritant and anesthetic, with a languid, foul, and destructive nature.
- Effects: Causes stupor, paralysis of sensation and motion, weak pulse, depressed breathing, and can lead to death from respiratory center paralysis.
- Primary Action: Mainly affects the central nervous system and enhances olfactory sensitivity.
- Dosage: Recommended between the third to thirtieth potency. For arthritis, Phenol as per Goodno’s method, must be pure.
- Specific Formulation: Crystals Solution (25%) mixed in equal parts water and glycerine. Dose is 20 minims, well diluted, taken three times daily (Bartlett’s recommendation).
